Catherine from Ireland here, having seen and read Markus Cox's blog about how to beat the hosepipe ban and in a reply comment to a member here and informing us of a product that can reduce watering your plants and garden. Markus kindly offered members here a free sample of Alfieco GardenPlus. I applied for a sample and Markus sent it pronto , thanks Markus :)
At this early stage I am not yet promoting this product, I am trialing it on some plants, seedlings and new seeds.
GardenPlus cuts down watering by 50%...Improves plant health....Improves taste and quality of fruit and veggies...Helps seeds germinate faster..!
Here is a picture of my main choices so far....Left side will be watered with GardenPlus and Right side with just ordinary water.
At back....2 apple pip seedlings, next is 2 Aubergines....on front left is 6 Dwarf French Bean seeds, on front right is2 Marigolds, and outside right 6 Cauliflower seeds.
Also I have GardenPlused some plants in my tunnel.....
2 rows of Carrots....above...and below I am doing half and half of a row of Iceberg lettuce
I have also picked 3 potted Tomato plants in the tunnel to use in the trial, just to check differences...
The middle one seems to be a bit dull last few days, so will see how it does..!
I am excited about this trial and am delighted to be trying out Markus's product, I feel useful :)
This will be an ongoing blog to keep you all up to date on the progress of the plants.
Cheers for now, chat soon :)

Comment by Catherine on May 28, 2012 at 20:19 GardenPlus is best used alongside a good quality natural plant food or fertilizer!
Comment by Catherine on June 5, 2012 at 21:05 8 Days On...Update....5th June !
This is more close up than the first picture to show the 2 Aubergines, the GardenPlus on the left seems to have grown twin stems and has caught up in height with the ordinary watered one on the right!!
Both the 2 apple seedlings behind just seem to be growing taller every day, hubby thinks the GardenPlus on the left is slightly catching up with the other one, I am not sure ! But the GardenPlus one is definitely heavier than the other, meaning it is holding water better !
I am going to have to plant these outside soon too.
Dwarf French Beans....normal germination time is 10 - 20 Days.
This one peeped up yesterday and is the GardenPlus one !
Marigolds... I am holding this one on the left...These 2 were approx the same size starting out, but......
I had an unwanted visitor attack the GardenPlus one and he chewed through a few stems over night, I knew slugs like marigolds so I put a few pellets in pots and waited a few days. New leaves grew within a few days and now looks healthy again, even if it is a bit smaller I do think it is growing fast again...!!
I am a bit disappointed with the Cauliflower seedlings...all 3 on right...plain water...germinated before any GardenPlus ones showed, still waiting for the 3rd GardenPlus to show up !
The 2 rows of Carrots and 1 row of Iceberg Lettuce..
The back row of carrots is sparsley germinated, the front row is doing good. The row of lettuce looks all even, sorry about the Courgettes hiding some of the lettuce row, but I did give them a water with GardenPlus too as well as a liquid feed. ;)
I couldn't get all the toms in the one picture...this one is Moneymaker and has just shot up in the last week,
This one was the poorly looking one 8 days ago, it is a Beefsteak, but the new growth is definitely looking healthy. I'm afraid I cannot show you the 3rd one because it was the only Yellow Cherry that had a tag on and my daughter had booked one from me ages ago, so I had to give it to her, pot...stake and all...!
Overall.....This is a very interesting trial and the GardenPlus pots definitely hold water better than just ordinary water! I have used it on other plants around my garden, but I am only letting ye know about the specific trial plants here :)
You can find out more about Alfieco GardenPlus HERE.
Happy Gardening to All......See you in another 8 days!
Please feel free to add comments and ask questions ;)

Comment by markus cox on June 5, 2012 at 23:35 hi, it all sounds good but don't see any pictures. never mind, GardenPLUS Works differently on different plants so you will see varied results at the start but in the long term you will see good results. keep up the good work. I'm very interested and genuinely excited to see how it all goes. best of luck.
Comment by markus cox on June 5, 2012 at 23:36 Don't worry about the photo's as they have now become visible.
Comment by Catherine on June 5, 2012 at 23:56 Thanks Markus. I know it is only 8 days, so I am also excited and very interested to see more results too. Did anyone else take up your offer of the sample here? Would love to hear and compare!
I have told a few people here in Ireland about GardenPlus especially my veggie garden neighbour. We in Ireland will be charged for our water soon, so saving will be a big "PLUS" for us too!
When I have to move on the trial plants I will still keep them in the trial.
Comment by markus cox on June 6, 2012 at 0:03 no, no one has taken up the offer yet, its a shame as its a really great product. apart from my own testing and the football club and sports ground trials that are being done at the moment we don't have anyone else testing here. we do have over 20 years worth of testing on everything from garden plants to grass and trees to professional growers around the world all of which show very good results but no UK results yet.
Comment by markus cox on June 6, 2012 at 0:17 Here are a few things you might find interesting. last week we moved a few plants from our rockery in the front garden to the rockery around the back. during the move the roots were cut short and one of the plants started to wilt and start to die after a few days. we put a double dose of garden plus on to it and over night it fully recovered and now is growing well. unfortunately i never took a before and after photo but if your transplanting large plants then this is good to help protect them until they have established.
Comment by Catherine on June 6, 2012 at 0:22 Wow, great to know that! My grandaughter brought me a woody slip/cutting today for me to grow for her. Not a good cut, but would have put rooting powder on it and hoped for the best for her. Tell me what do do with GardenPlus to help :)
Comment by markus cox on June 6, 2012 at 0:31 well to start just use rooting powder and the normal dose of garden plus until the roots develop. but be careful as you don't want to drown the cutting. once roots start to grow the garden plus will take over and give the cutting the boost it needs as it will effectively extend the root structure until the plant can support itself. i don't know of trials on cuttings with garden plus so your in virgin territory but it should work. also with regards to the main trials if you don't see much of a result in the next week i would recommend a second treatment as you might not have enough solution in the soil.
Comment by Catherine on June 6, 2012 at 0:49 Yes, I meant to ask you about how often to repeat with GardenPlus. I was going to add a few drops the next time they dried a bit!
