Hello, and welcome to UKVG.

Be warned they can get a lot bigger!

Courgettes(big & small), mini pumpkin and butternut squash - UK...

Just make sure there's none hiding in the foliage. As Flighty says, they'll be marrows if you turn your back on them.

Wow Flighty they are huge!

Checked yesterday morning and all seems quiet, that isn't to say by the time I get home tonight they wont have got busy with themselves.

My arms look like I've been wrestling cats with all the scratches from the spines on the foliage, viscious things.

Someone asked how big courgettes eventually grow. I didn't know so left these two alone and that was the result!

I've not grown any this year but still had plenty as plot neighbours have been more than happy to keep giving me some.

I have the same problem with 'lurkers' in the undergrowth - I don't use them though, I prefer mine 'finger-sized'.  Even though i spaced the plants out at 3ft apart you still need a safari suit and hatchet to get around the patch.

I've noticed that the middle stem of the courgette plant just keeps growing-mine are thigh high now, glad I put a cane in an upturned, bottomless empty lemonade bottle to mark where the water needs to go to reach the roots- you would never get in without a machete. Two courgette plants would have been plenty for 2 adults, I had three and have been giving away the surplus in my veg basket at the garden gate.
