As it is getting so chilly now I have been bringing in some of the container veg into the greenhouse - dwarf beans, lettuce etc.  - I hear that there may be some frost on the horizon - I just hope the late sown runners don't succumb to it as their pot is too big to move - I suppose I could always wrap them in fleece.

Ah the  joys of living in the south!  It's still warm enough at night here to manage with just a cardi outdoors but we've had one or two nights which have been distinctly chillier.  Noticed this morning that the first conkers are appearing on the ground, always a sign that autumn is upon us!

A good sign of autumn for me is when I start looking longingly at the wood burning stove as I sit shivering in my chair - it won't be long before we start having those roaring great fires burning to keep our little toes toasted.

No frosts up here yet but the nights are getting distinctly chilly and the melon plants in the greenhouse are looking fed up. My runners in the bean hedge have been very productive but I'm leaving the remainder to fatten up and dry on the plants till the really bad weather comes.

I noticed a small flock of geese flying over a couple of days ago and that's a sign for us that winter isn't far away. By this time next month tens of thousands of them will be feeding on the marshes and ten thousand geese means a lot of honking!!
