Earlier this year I planted some winter cabbages and covered them with a fine mesh cover. There was one spare plant that I left uncovered - here are the results.
These were the covered cabbages - hardly any slug damage and no caterpillar damage
Even if I do say so myself - they are pretty impressive. The next picture is the uncovered cabbage
You wouldn't recognise it as being the same cabbage would you?
This is the fine gauge mesh I covered them with - it is now covering my next planting of spring cabbage
I think the moral of the tale is - if you want a decent brassica harvest with no pest damage use fine mesh covers or cloches
