UK Veg Gardeners

After some time away trying to find a job and important things like that I made the decision to not rush to get crops in for this growing season but to prepare the allotment for winter and do some proper planning for the next year.

Disappointingly I decided to concentrate on the potted-crops on my roof, the urban jungle, but have not had much luck with that this year.  I just dont think it got as much sun as it did last year... I have lots of green but not much to harvest despite plenty of feed!! :-(

But when I got back down to the allotment yesterday I told the neighbouring plot holder of my plight and as I was leaving was handled a generous bundle of runner beans as I "didnt have anything of my own to harvest this year"!!!  I am going to like the community feel of the allotments.

Lots to do to on the allotment to clear it, get compost bins constructed, and get planted - I have sweet williams poised to go in and broad beans too!!  WIll be looking out for lots of advice and guidance on what to grow and do in the next few months! :-)

Nice to see you back Steven - any news on the job front.  Shame about your balcony crops - it all seemed to going well earlier in the year.  There's always another year - hopefully by next March your allotment will be in full swing - dont get disheartened.

Thanks Elaine - good to be back catching up with discussions and things on the site!!

Had some freelance work through June - hence the neglect on the allotment - but still looking for some proper work!! So if any business/Computing lecturer vacancies anyone knows of... please let me know! :-)

In the meantime, between job applications, I have plenty to keep me occupied!!  Looks like maybe joining the local gardening celebrity Alys Flower on a foraging walk later this week too!!

I think I am more motivated than ever with the plot - not having to rush to get the crops in and down means that I can take the time to plan it better and doing it over the winter means I can get the "infrastructure" in place - namely the compost bins and parents old shed!! :-)

Looking forward to catching up with everyones goings on...
