Damp morning on the plot, managed to cut Gladioli down to to give them a chance to dry.Sawn and drilled more posts for brassica frame good weather Saturday should  bolt more together.Emptied tomato pots and washed in Jeyes fluid, now stored till next year. The bowls of pea gravel the pots sit on are out first dry day will sterilise gravel. This is just a version of the ring culture ,a very old but still good way to grow tomatoes.

So do the roots grow down through the gravel? Would love to hear more about this method!

The plant has feeding roots in the pot and roots taking water from the gravel.I use black florists buckets with the bottom removed.Have a wire from one end of greenhouse to the other this is for tying  support canes to.  Once roots are into gravel water via gravel and feed via pot..To prevent blossom end rot ,once tomatoes form feed once a week with calcium nitrate.2 teaspoons to a gallon and feed plants one pint each
