Old chillies v new chillies: how do you grow yours?

Over-Wintering chillis seem like hard work to me! I have done it a few times, but it always ends up as a massive battle between me and a million aphids. I'm thinking that maybe I'm going to stop doing it. On the other hand, a mature chilli plant does produce earlier (and probably more) fruit...

Oh dear! Aphids are the reason I stopped experimenting with overwintering chillis, but I thought that was just my inexperience.
