UK Veg Gardeners

As the vegetable garden is winding down the only crops, besides leeks and parsnips, are the brassicas.  I have planted plenty to see me through the winter - Savoy cabbage, January King, Scarlet Kale, Cavolo Nero Kale  and Purple Sprouting Broccoli.  I have also just planted out Cauliflower and Spring Cabbage. I have to say that I love my greens.  I know it isn't the same for everyone, children in particular, and although I love the summer crops - beans etc.   In my book you just can't beat a good cabbage.

You haven't planted the best brassica of all, the Brussel Sprout?????

For some reason I don't do very well with brussels - tried for years - so I've given up on them now.

I've also given up on sprouts and when they're only £1 a bag in Iceland it's just not worth wasting the space for the amount we eat. Still got plenty of cabbage, kale, swedes and turnips growing and spring cabbage waiting to go out if I can find space on the plot. If not I'll just put them in big containers.

You don't get, Victoriana's, Red Brussels, in Iceland, Colin.

I'm with Colin on this one. If you can grow them then lucky you, but if like me you can't then it ain't worth the headache.

Sprouts are green, Fred. Everybody knows that ;-)
