All my spare seeds are down my plot and I'm doing my best to get rid of them when I can

I have so many which I won't use but I everyone has semed to have already got their seeds in

The trouble with most varieties is that, tastewise, there's little or nothing to choose between them. I know they have other properties like disease resistance and different seasons but I grow most of my veg. for its taste. Modern plant breeding has given us some great varieties but I often feel the downside is a certain blandness.

I disagree, there is often much difference in taste

Take Sweet Candle Carrots for example, you won't taste another carrot like it

Also, my personal opinion is that many of the older Heritage varieties are better tasting but many of them are now not produced by the seed companies and only available through growers re-selecting

When you look at the seed catalogues I think there are a number of varieties with little to chose between them on taste but as Darren says there are some that stand out from the crowd - I'd agree on Sweet Candle being one of them after growing them last year, my children loved them which is normally the acid test when it comes to my veg!  Tastewise heritage is the way to go if they are still available.

I tried giving spare seed away last year at work as I don't have a allotment and one guy complained that they didn't germinate for him.  So needless to say no freebies from me this year.  I've got a couple of friends who take for ever to get started so I usually sow extra and give to them. Think they may now be waiting for my plants rather that start their own!!

Sounds like they may be hanging back on purpose now John!

Yeah but they are friends and the occasional bottle of Malt finds its way back to the "pondarossa" so all is well

Ah that makes it worthwhile, good to get some payback every so often!

Damo, I hope you got plenty of help to sow all them seeds.
