I have been so busy in the last month I have had no time to update my blog. However, I am now (hopefully) back. This is just one of my 8, yes 8, pumpkins. I love growing pumpkins, and I very much missed my pumpkin patch when I didn't grow them last year. I love the way they trail off, rambling across the allotment...read more.

What variety are they?

You are not that far from me and I fancy growing them next year so if they like your climate they should like mine.

You can never have enough of them - they are such a staple for the Winter, and carefully stored will be fine to next Feb.

That said I've currently nearly had enough of Pumpkins as we continue to visit schools and judge the Pumpkin Competition we run each year! Another two schools tomorrow, two Tuesday, one Wednesday etc.

And all those different school assemblies.

Numbers are down on fruits produced this year - but thankfully the children aren't disheartened.

Sorry for my very very late reply. This is the first time I have been able to catch up with my blog in a long time.

Stephen: I agree wholeheartedly with you that you can never have enough pumpkins!

Colin: I can't remember what variety (I will check when I get home in a few days), although I know that they were nothing out of the ordinary. I have found them to be one of the easiest things to grow, although they do take up a lot of space. I really left them to get on with it, except for putting a slate under each of the growing pumpkins (otherwise they have a tendency to go rotten).

My pumpkins were Jack-O-Lantern. Not a particularly interesting variety I know, but they made a lovely pumpkin and chili vegetable soup, and a lovely pumpkin curry. Plus I found that it froze well. Just discovered that my remaining 2 unused pumpkins had started to go rotten, so they stored well for 3 months.
