Yesterday my new secateurs arrived!  At last, a pair of Felco no 12s are mine, ha ha hah! These are the ones with the swivelling handle, made for small hands. I'm fighting the urge to go mad pruning and snipping in the garden.  So far, I've restricted myself to snipping off brown leaves from my houseplants ... that and picking them up for a quick squeeze every time I pass them.  Daft, I know, but having had perfectly good secateurs from Wilkinson Sword (or such like) up until now, these Felco's are making me feel very happy today, in a cat that's got the cream way.  As a person whose footwear is generally wellies, Crocs, Uggs and Converse, I imagine it's a bit like putting on a pair of Prada shoes for the first time.

Now to find a good home for my other secateurs ...

Thank you Flighty! Having the right perfect tool for the job makes the work so much more pleasurable.  We have many roses here on York Rise which I like to deadhead for the tenant who planted them. (She's now 95!) But first I have my eye on an untidy patch of rampant ivy which I've earmarked for an apple tree! x

Oh you lucky thing - they should last you a lifetime.  I have a pair which I inherited from my Dad - he had had them for donkeys' years and I have had them at least 20.  I have three other pairs - on one the spring has come off, another have gone rusty and the third are about as sharp as my b-m.

Elaine, if your other three pairs are Felco's, the Felco website has loads of spares to fix them up (should keep hubby quiet on a rainy day, heh, heh). (Errm, not suggesting for a minute you're not up to the task!)   I'm hoping that the Felco sharpening tool (borrowed from a chum) will work on my other secateurs ... I can then use those for really tough jobs where I don't want to spoil my Felcos! How lovely to share a passion for gardening with your Dad... I wish my son was interested. ;o)

Carolyn - no the other three pairs are cheapos, not worth the money paid for them.

I have the swivel handled Felcos too - they are very snazzy and really do stop your wrist from aching when you have industrial strength pruning to do

As I have small hands, the choice was really between 2 pairs and the swivel handled ones sounded just the job for getting rid of the ivy in the remaining uncleared borders (there's also lots of roses here, heh, heh.)  I hope these will be the last pair of secateurs I'll buy!
