I didn't have much success with garlic this year - they rotted in the ground or disapeared altogether. So I'm just wondering whether I shall bother with them again - but if I do - now is the time to be planting them.
Comment by Stephen Shirley on October 19, 2012 at 13:24 Elaine, it may be time as far as gardening books / magazines are concerned - but with this year's current wet and quite warm Autumn you may also experience rotting.
You would be better to delay until it gets a little drier (hopefully) and colder. They're not going to break into growth just yet anyway so the delay will cause no issue.
Comment by elaine rickett on October 19, 2012 at 13:56 I was going to plant them in pots in the greenhouse till they get going - hopefully any wet weather won't affect them in there - what do you think?
Comment by Stephen Shirley on October 20, 2012 at 17:17 What Garlic needs is cold - so in the greenhouse will be counter productive. Patience for a week or two - it can't stay wet forever can it?
