I read a good tip somewhere the other day about cutting cabbage.  If you have a particularly large cabbage that you couldn't possibly eat in one go - then just cut a portion out of the cabbage whilst it is still in the ground - and cover the remaining part with tin foil on the plant till you need it.  Anyone ever tried this?  The other thing is that when you finally cut off the whole cabbage, if you cut a cross into the stump you should get four small cabbages forming.  I have done this myself and it does work.

I always cut cabbages a couple of inches above the ground and let them throw out new shoots. These are great in salads or stir-fries. I do the same with celery.

How ingenious!  I haven't grown cabbages yet (maybe next year when I reorganise the space) but I like the idea of being able to leave half on the plant until needed! An excellent tip, thank you!
