| There will be a path running through those leeks |
Comment by Colin Robinson on February 5, 2013 at 23:26 First of all, don't get hung up on rotation. It's not as important as many would have you believe, certainly not on the scale that home growers work. It helps not to have the same plant groups in the same ground year after year in order to avoid disease problems but most of us can easily accommodate that. And if you want straight parsnips have a look at my method:

Comment by Fred Hogg on February 6, 2013 at 0:45 Put your 1st and 2nds, in, the beds that are vacant, and delay the maincrop planting, until you have room.
You can dig up the leeks and heel them in elsewhere, they will keep like that for a fair while.
Comment by AdamJohn on February 7, 2013 at 21:32 Thanks for the comments guys,
Colin: Thanks for the advice and the link. I will definitely be copying your method this year, I had thought about growing in containers up the allotment. However the idea of snipping out the bottom of the pots is great!
Fred: I'll do that. I was pondering whether to bother with maincrops at all, but figured i may as well when I get the space. If anything it will help break up the soil.
Trevor: I hadn't considered that!
