One of my favourite liquid feeds once my veg plants are growing well.Never use it on seedlings as its always a varying strength.Loosely fill a tub or old dustbin with comfrey leaves  and cover with water,it is good advice to have a lid on as it attracts a lot of mozzies and I myself have a nasty reaction from their bites.Ready to use after 3 weeks I just fill my watering can no rose on and water.Mainly potatoes in drums every other watering, alternating with a high liquid nitrogen feed.my giant marrows, cabbage and onions.I do not use on tomatoes no magnesium use a bought tomato feed plus Calcium Carbonate to prevent blosdom end rot, also helps prevent celery heart rot.Constantly add more leaves and water.PS in smells a bit

Never tried it but I do make a lot of seaweed liquid feed and that's great for tomatoes as it has potash and magnesium, in addition to growth promoting hormones, enzymes, etc.

And that reminds me, we've had some big tides so I need to get out and gather up a few more sackfulls from the stuff that's been washed up to high water mark.

Colin, would love your recipe for the seaweed feed.

PS, its smells A LOT !

Have you tried laying your spuds on Comfrey leaves when planting?

It smells less if you don't add water apparently. Though probably takes longer to rot down.

Forgot to mention (I guess Colin probably knows though) that seaweed extract as a foliar feed is a) probably the best and b) definitely the most effective natural control for red spider mite - obviously landlubbers!

Use comfry tea on potatoes I grow in sawn in half 40 gallon drums, every time I water I feed alternatley with high nitrogen and comfrey. With this method I regulary produce 20-25 lb of potatoes from one seed in each half barrel.Last year during National aloment week emptied a drum for visitors best weight of the season 32lb from one seed potato

My recipe for seaweed feed is not really a recipe. I just gather up as much dead weed as I can and steep it in 5 gallon drums for a month or two. The partly rotted weed goes on the compost heap and the black smelly liquid is decanted into plastic water bottles with screw tops. I dilute it 2 pints to a 2 gallon watering can. As Stephen points out, it makes an excellent foliar feed although I wouldn't recommend it for your house plants!!
