Had to sow all my Carrots again today, all my previous April efforts failed not one germinated, can only think it was the extremely cold nights (and Days) have tried a trial row with the seed in a paper strip

I sowed five lots of carrots through April and into May and they all just sat there. Germination was slow and patchy but last week's hot weather has really got them storming away so I'm hoping we'll actually get some to eat this year. You can keep sowing them for a good while yet so don't despair.

I sowed mine in cardboard loo roll tubes in trays in the coldframe before planting out. Germination rate was tip top. If only the neighbours cat hadn't slept on them I'd have more left hahaha but I still have more now than I have had in previous years.

I like that method Debbie will try when I next sow some good use for for the cardboard tubes too

The cold weather has effect Carrots

I sowed an early batch when we had good weather and these germinated ok, but the latter batches struggled a bit.

I cover all my carrots weather in raised beds or in ground with polythene until they are germinated

Take a look here you can see covered carrots in raised bed and how long til they came up
