When the blossom came out on the pear tree it was very cold and there were no bees about - so I set to with a paintbrush and went over all the flowers with it to try and move the pollen about a bit - and look, a pear - well there are two actually - not a great success - but at least it's better than none.

You have to start somewhere... Next year you will have more.

I have had the pear tree for several years now Mark it was a dual variety - one half died and left me with one variety - this is the first after all those years - hope I can hang on to it till it matures.  May be you're right and this will be the start of something big.

Hope you feel rightfully proud of your efforts.

Well as Mark says - it's a start - one day it may be laden with juicieness.

Just pray you don't get any strong winds. I got a fantastic flush of pear fruitlets last year and then gale force winds blasted most of them off. I ended up with about half a dozen full-size fruit :(

I got my tree, Conference, from Homebase four years ago and it's about 10 feet tall now but I'm trying to train it as a minarette so it doesn't take up too much space.

Perhaps I ought to secure them with string just to make sure they stay put.

Fingers crossed that you get to enjoy eating them.

I don't have much luck with pear trees - the first one I had died after my sheep stripped the bark off it when they forced their way into my small orchard area.
