The Shortest Day gets Nearer

I have not done much on the veg patch but here is my December round up.The Greenhouse needs cleaning but one son has the pressure washer so I will do that in the new year. Inside the greenhouse I have some carrots in a 30ltr tub, these may be ready in Feb 2015, as an experiment for Christmas lunch it failed. I have a tray of lettuce which will be ready soon although the row outside is still OK, no real frost yet.

Saturday 13th December

Beautiful day here in Notts.

Started by cleaning the greenhouse with a weak solution of Jeyes fluid, it's sparkling now and smells great, like hospitals used to. Also used a weak solution on all fruit trees in the garden. Transplanted a donated cob nut tree about 5 foot tall, looks wicked already can't wait to see it grow, also transplanted another donated Apple tree, my fruit collection is building now, Bramley, cox, James greave plus 2 other apples, peach, apricot, almond and cob nut… Continue

the diggin nearly done

another half hr digging today not much left ,the new back saver spade i bought last year has been worth every penny now i am not fit enough for a regular spade .i have spread manure over the top to winter in ,this year for the first time i have used the straw from some sheep pens from a farm down the road he offered me a manitou bucket full been standing for about 8 months so not rotted down quite enough by spring the weather and the worms should have done their job and it was free and…
