do I have to take the side shoots off cherry tomato plants, I dont know the variety as they were givem to me by a friend. They are growing much taller than the cherry tomatoes I grew last year? Continue

"Pinching out the side shoots will make the tomato plant taller. Don't forget to pinch the top out of the plant when 5 sets of fruit have set."

"Hmmm...I had cherry toms last year and I presumed they were cordons, so took off sideshoots. They did have masses of toms on each truss, and grew as tall as "ordinary" sized ones. I have loads this year,but some got frosted way back then…"

"Like Jan I've only grown bush varieties so if you leave the side shoots they'll make a bush anyway...it just might be a bit taller than you expected."

"I sowed carrots every month until November last year, I only have small garden and grow them in all sorts of large boxes and troughs, the carrots i sowed in October were Marion, and I covered them with a cloche, they are ready to start harvesting…"

My garden last summer.

"Thanks Flighty 39, I m so pleased I ve been able to grow so many of our vegetables, my sons enjoyed picking lettuce and tomatoes for their sandwiches, and my grandchildren loved picking cherry tomatoes for their lunch when they came at the weekend.…"
