What does a good session on the allotment plot do for you physically and mentally

Posted on April 2, 2015 at 10:30 9 Comments

Well I have been suffering from really painful sciatica since December of last year due to a lower spine problem probably age related at 73. Point to note I do not suffer from back pain sciatica affects the buttocks and legs..

Well yesterday I had my first really good relaxing long session on the allotment plot digging two long trenches planting two rows of seed potatoes and earthing up,with general tidying time spent about two and a half hours. Result the first time I have been pain…

Diabetes and the allotment plot

Posted on February 12, 2014 at 14:30 6 Comments

When diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in February 2013 I was advised to consider lifestyle changes and put on Metformin tablets for the foreseeable future I was considered overweight but not obese.

I am happy to say that after losing 13 Kg over a period of 7 months my GP has taken me off the medication for a 3 month trial period and I will mange on diet alone until my next HBA1C blood test. Blood sugar is now measured over that period as it is a much more reliable method of measuring…

how uncaring can a allotment plot neighbour be

Posted on July 5, 2013 at 22:48 10 Comments

Eastbourne allotments and garden society are failing in my opinion to deal with this man sternly enough. Each year they threaten him with eviction for failing to attend to his plot, what does he do each time?, go and dig about 10 square meters of a 6 rod plot and then do nothing for another year. The weeds invading my plot from his are really invasive and frankly I cannot keep up with…

Sea defences

Will a seaweed boundary keep the slugs and snails at bay from the brassicas and lettuces my next door plot neighbour hopes so he collected quite a sizeable amount that was washed up from our local beach and deposited a barrier all round the bed.…

Thank you for your comment on my photo, I'd forgotten what a friendly place this is! I've posted another photo of Coco, three years on and still happiest when she's covered in muck lol.
