I love beans

Posted on August 19, 2010 at 8:56 11 Comments

I love the fact that a crop that will glut in the summer can be used much later and you don't have to do anything apart from lay them out to dry and stop them from going mouldy. We eat them in salads, stews with other veg or meat, and pureed with garlic, lemon juice, olive oil and herbs as a dip. I sow my dwarf french for drying in early May under cover and plant out late May/early June where I am on the North Norfolk coast.

Hi Trish I am sending you a gift as I found a recipe for tomatillo salsa on your site and it is lovely- very good with rice and lentils!

Hi Trish
Thank you for your comments. I planted my radicchio mid-Aug, a bit late I thought, but they have grown and grown. One variety in particular are huge. Going to try forcing some of the varieties, haven't tried that before so we'll see how it goes.

Hi Trish
Can't take the credit for the topiary owl. I took the photo in Greenbank Gardens Glasgow. Another topiary they had was a caterpillar made up of different sized box balls, I think I might manage that.

Hi Trish,

Thanks for the comment - I think I overestimated my reading time too. I sorted out my seeds yesterday and my "to sow in January" and "to sow in February" piles are enormous! It'll all be off and racing again soon - can't wait ;)

Thanks for your comment regarding my phto's, Carrots and allotment

I am very particular and regimented in how I set things out

All in straight lines and right angles

Some call it OCD, I call it tidy

As for my carrots, check out my blog, link above. You will see my set up and my plans

If you want any tips on producing quality vegetables, just ask
