Annual Spring Clean

Posted on February 15, 2015 at 20:10 2 Comments

It's that time when I don my oldest (Next stop the bin ) clothes, and descend on the greenhouse with buckets of Jeyes Fluid. A couple of hours sloshing and scrubbing sees me gasping for fresh air and smelling like a newly cleaned public convenience!

Never mind, everything is clean and scrubbed, so it's off to the shower, having dumped most outer garments either in the aforesaid bin, or the washing machine.

So today it was the turn of the sulphur candle. Set the tin on a brick…

Catching Up

Posted on May 25, 2014 at 20:34 0 Comments

Having, due to work and family commitments, fallen somewhat behind with garden jobs. Took a day out today to catch up.

First job was to tidy up, and clean the terrace, which I had scattered with various containers and compost. OH decided, optimistically, that we may have some nice weather soon and use of the terrace might be an option.

Next task was to plant out things that were rapidly outgrowing their current containers, these consisted of climbing French bean "Cosse…

Glorious day wasn't it? Had a marathon tomato potting up session, all now potted on. It was so warm in the greenhouse today, that some of the tomatoes fainted! had to rush them into the shade, were they later recovered. Moved the shallots, that have all sprouted bar 3 into the cold frame ( Which, today was a warm frame 1! ). Sowed another row of peas " Early Onward", my first batch were "Douce Provence" from saved seed, they started off well enough in the greenhouse, but since I planted them…

Hi Trevor; I bet Great Orme was pretty chilly today! Even here, the weather has been apalling today - max temp about 10C, strong wind, heavy rain. My garden has taken a real battering. Some of the tomatoes may be beyond redemption. I hve brought all my chillis indoors tonight, for which they will surely thank me. Forecast for the weekend sounds better.

BTW, do you read my blog at all? I write a post every day...

Planning to make some more bread tomorrow: French-style baguettes this time I think.

Hope you have a good Bank Holiday.

thanks for 'friendship add' Trevor !  Getting used to the site as a newby but always seem to get stuck in a binary cul-de-sac with these things ???  I'm a boat builder so hands-on brain-off sometimes ;-))  I was in your neck of the woods last summer canoeing Lake Bala with the gang. I am a kayak instructor but canoes are my passion. The weather was stunning, over a hundred of us camped the w/end enjoying great paddling,BBQs etc.

Hi Trevor; So you finally managed to upload the new mugshot then...? What was the key to all that business in the end?

The Chillis seeds arrived yesterday Trevor. Many thanks for them. I will of course report how they fare...

Hi Trevor;

Re the proposed Tomato-lovers Group: I think you would be an ideal Owner for the group, but I suppose it would be politic to wait for a few days to see what sort of response there is. There's no point in setting up a new Group if only the two of us are interested!

I know there are one or two UKVG members who are very knowledgeable in this field, and I hope they will come forward.

In the meantime, Happy New Year! (Have you finalised your chilli-growing plans yet?)

How odd: my email tells me you have left a new comment in the Chilli-lovers Group, but when I go there, I can't see it... Did you use invisible ink?
