Supporting brassicas

My sprouts are growing well, and I noticed at the weekend when I removed the tunnel cloche for a bit of weeding how vulnerable they were to the wind. So with that in mind, I'd appreciate any advice…Continue

I've just received this in an email from the "Burdens" review. Good news. "Thank you for your recent email about the review of statutory duties placed on local government. Until now, there has been…Continue

"It's one of my favourite veg, David. I don't mind that it takes forever to come to fruition. No doubt the big commercial growers are working on one that will keep its colour!"

"I'm a bit bemused by it Mark, wondering if there was a bit of a mix-up, some of the plants quickly flowered and ran to seed before Christmas. But 3 plants held out until now, well the last couple of weeks. I had given up on them. Worth waiting…"

Congrats for getting an allotment! :) I'm queuing for one as well, looks like it's going to be a long wait.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for nice weather for the weekend and looking forward to some pics. That tomato with a big red nose makes me laugh, I've never grown weird looking veg before. I'm calling it Rudolph. :)

Thank you, Steve. Glad you like the blog. I'm quite envious that you have room for a polytunnel. I love the idea of pottering around inside with the rain hammering down.

You're thinking of getting chickens? I'd recommend highly, they're amazing! I got mine few weeks ago and eventhough we haven't got any eggs yet (they're still a bit young) I'm really glad we got them. The only regret I have that we didn't get more, but there's still time! :)

Eglu's the way to go! I love mine, it looks nice and it's so easy to clean. Also you don't need to worry about red mite with a plastic coop and the run is fox-proof. They are quite dear, but I managed to get a second hand one from Ebay after months of looking and bidding.

You can house 4 chickens in the coop, but need 1m extension per chicken if you want to keep more than 2 hens in the run. I only have 2 hens but I'm hoping Santa will bring me one extension so that I can get a third bird in the spring. :)Chickens are fab pets! And from a veg growing point of view... Their poo makes pretty awesome compost! :)

Here's a thought... Fancy doing a seed swap? I ordered 2 packets of Uchiki Kuri pumpkin seeds by mistake and really don't need that many. Want to swap the extra packet for a few seeds of whatever squash you end up choosing?

I've got loads of flower seeds as well (they keep sending me freebies), would you be interested in those as well? Such a shame to waste them.

Yup, there is a group for seed swappers and I've already posted my items there, but no joy so far. My flower seeds aren't anything hugely interesting (maybe that's why they were free!), just didn't want to let them go to waste.

I've haven't got much room to grow big stuff, but I would welcome some beetroot or chilli seeds, or anything edible that I can sow in drifts in my edible landscape experiment. :)

Sounds like a plan! :) PM me your address and I'll get your stuff ready to go! :)

Sorry it's taking so long... I harvested the last of my chillies and saved some seeds, would you like some? No idea of the variety, but there's a pic here > http://strawberrypotsforever.blogspot.com/2010/10/hot-stuff.html. Should I post the flower seeds as well (Morning Glory and Petunia) or would you rather give them a miss? I'll try to get them in the post tomorrow. :)
