Following a raid on my Grandad's orchard, I now have several kilos of damsons to use up. I was planning on making some damson gin, and probably some jam. Any other suggestions?

Rob Duffin replied to Donna C's discussion Is it too early to start chitting?
"I love this time of year when everyone gets obsessed with chitting potatoes, and yet no-one questions 'why bother?' I was having a browse through my books and online the other day, and NONE of them have a good reason to do it. The RHS say…"

Rob Duffin replied to Damo's discussion New Year Resolutions?
"Everbearer strawberries are a definite on my list. I'm also going to get a Mirabelle de Nancy tree and will be experimenting with attempting to grow melons, sweetcorn, ginger and lemongrass - well I like a challenge ;) I'm going to give…"

Rob Duffin replied to Damo's discussion So what worked and what failed for you this year?
"My garlic was very poor, and I'm still not sure why since everyone else did really well with theirs! All my squashes struggled with the long dry summer, as did the potatoes (they were small) - but at least they didn't get blight. Onions…"

Rob Duffin replied to Stephen Shirley's discussion Saving Tomato Seed
"Several months later I know, but just to say I did try this although on a somewhat smaller scale using jam jars to ferment the seed in and plates to dry them on. Whilst I've not sowed any to check on germination I've probably got about…"

Rob Duffin replied to Donna C's discussion What sort of times have you waited for a lottie plot?
"When I took on my first plot (just over 5 years ago) I had my pick of about 100 plots, but then the site did resemble a woodland. At the time I had my name down on another site and eventually got one about 3 and a half years. On the first site we…"

Rob Duffin replied to sweetpea lou's discussion Green Manures - to sow or not to sow?
"Interesting one isn't it? I read GYO and saw Monty on GW which got me thinking about it too. I've tended to grow some now and again, the most successful being the mustards, but as to whether it's been of any great benefit other than…"

Rob Duffin replied to Colin Robinson's discussion G.O. catalogue
"Garden Organic are often more expensive than other seed catalogues, but in my experience they give a lot more seeds than most of the big companies and their germination rates are great"
