"Hi again. Seems theres quite a few differing opinions on garlic - what works for one person may not work for another - too many variables maybe. Charles Dowding is a vegetable grower whose ideas I admire - in his book "Organic Gardening"…"

"Don't bash the greengrocer. The important thing is that your garlic was grown in the UK and not impoted from Egypt or Spain.  I go to organic vegetable shops where they name their sources and try to get Scottish grown stock  to grow…"

"Still time to do it given the warmth (unless you are in Scotland?)-then you will get the frost to come  which will enable vernalisation -  the hard wintering process enabling good growth/lots of cloves "

"Absolutely-after a major disaster one year with disease and a measly harvest using greengrocer bulbs, I would never do this again.  My garlic harvest is too precious to me (and to my Brazilian daughter-in-law).  Sadly only 5 fat bulbs left…"

"Hi - if you do find some garlic bulbs and the ground's too hard by then, you can start them off in pots. I do that every year because I'm on clay and they'd rot in the ground. Leave them outside so the frost gets to them - they need a…"
