So, I'm rather new to veggie growing, and gardening in general, having taken over an allotment last August.  Not really thinking things through, I sowed some seeds directly into the ground in my…Continue

Small Surprises!

So after scratching my head, and pondering the advice everyone gave me on the photos I posted, I had a jolly good clear out in the greenhouse after work today, and pulled up everything in the 'I think it's a weed' category.  Once all the giants had gone, I had a few (pleasant) surprises... here's what I found:11 tomato plants - amazing, since they appear to have seeded themselves from last year's crop1 tiny seedling which look to be from the pepper family.  Whether it's one of the chillies I…See More

"Interesting, everyone seems to agree that the first is a brassica - no idea where it came from!  And it looks like I have a lot of tomatoes, despite my intention not to do anything year (don't actually like them - but at least I can make…"

"Hello.  All I know is that the first picture is a brassica of some type, with a healthy tomato seeding just underneath.   I think you may have trouble sowing Aubergine, Chilli & peppers straight into the ground, as they like a good…"

"Well, in some ways yes!  So long as I only knew what might be weed and what might not be!  These are simply the ones I've decided are most likely not weed... but I'm rather uncertain :) "

Ready to start bringing those veggies home!

Of course, there's a long while to go before I'll have any harvest ready to bring home from the allotment.  But when it comes, I'll be ready.

I've had this little project in mind for a month or two now - a vegetable transportation box for the back of my bike.  Nothing fancy, but its equipped with a couple runners on the bottom to hold it in place.  Now I just need to give it a coat of varnish to protect it against the elements, and maybe fashion a lid to stop the veggies jumping out…

or "what happens when Flopsy, Mopsy and Cottontail pay a visit".
