Herbaceous Perennials in the snow

Hey everyone,Its nice to be back in the country in time for snow! Things have changed around here- new logo and background, no Gillian!Anyway, my garden reacted to the warm weather over Christmas and New Year as if spring had come early. I had roses forming buds and herbaceous plants putting on new growth. My concern is what frost, ice and snow will do to the plants now they are no longer dormant.Will cloches be enough to protect them?See More

"I've made elderflower champagne many times and it is gorgeous and so refreshing. My advice would be to use champagne yeast but only a bit as too much can redecorate your house when you pop the stopper as I found out."

Gateway to the incomprehensible!

Posted on August 26, 2011 at 22:00 5 Comments

Hi guys,

Quick question- I need to replace my side gate. The pre made ones at Wickes and B &Q have rotten reviews- they arent sufficiently primed and swell closed.

Ive been down to see them and they seem flimsy and unattractive.

I found this one which is exactly what I need.

I want to engage a handyman/…

Now I get why people plant great forests of peas! They dont go very far do they?

I needed 10 times as many.

Fresh in the pod they are like sucking on liquid fructose. They never get to the kitchen!

The same goes for the broad beans. The falafel bonanza I was…

Hi Melinda;
The "Tomatoes in their jackets are really Tomatillos". If you don't already know these you might like to look at the blogpost about them on my blog (back in August)....

Hi Melinda; I've been away on holiday, so only just clearing a backlog of blogposts, comments etc, not deliberately ignoring you! In answer to your question about the taste of the tomatoes -- yes, I do think they taste different. I suppose it's like wine isnt't it? To some people wine is all the same, but when you learn more about it, you soon realise that wines (and tomatoes!) can be very different to each other. My favourite amongst this year's toms is Sungella.

Thank you Melinda for your comment.  Yes I garden here in UK.  Gardening and making good food is so rewarding.  Feel free to ask for  my recipes.  Most are easy to make.

The other garden with Yam is in South carolina, one of my friends'.  They have better climate and I often sight with envy!
