We had one that was about 50-60 cm high and filled it with very good growing medium, mostly as recommended by the guy who came up with the idea.

I don't know how big your aubergine's are, but I did nothing with mine last year and only got a few flowers, this year I pinched out the growing tip (before they were flowering) and it grew loads of offshoots and now has heaps…"
