Broccoli Issues

Hi I was wondering if anyone had any ideas what is going on with my broccoli. I planted it into the ground as directed on the packet and there was no problems with germination. It then looked like there was some little broccoli florets forming at the top and now it is starting to flower. I don't understand what's going wrong. They've only been in the ground since mid March. Can anyone shed any light on what's going on? See More

Viticella Clematis

I saw on gardeners World last Friday about Viticella Clematis being a good plant to grow but how do I know which varieties are Viticella? Is there a general rule that indicates which are which Viticella if it doesn't say so on the plant label (for instance when they flower or some other indicator that they are Viticella) or do you have to get them from specialist garden centres? See More

"You can eat the kale flower buds.  Try them cooked in a little olive oil flavoured with garlic and a squeeze of lemon juice.  The young kale leaves will still be OK to eat as well. Not sure about the sprouts though."

Good for you, I've been blogging for seven years and enjoy it as much as I ever did!

Thanks, Kay!  I too lived in Cornwall before I moved here in 2006.  I was in a small village called Boswinger on the South coast four miles from Heligan.  It was lovely there, and in fact Brittany is just like French Cornwall.  We have all the same sort of countryside with granite and gorse, but very little traffic and so much land not built on here.  Where are you?   Sandra

Hello Kay   Sounds as if you've got a lot of plans for this year with your raised beds.  I love it on my field.  It's about 200 yards from my house and for the first time last night, my youngest cat, Purrdy, followed me up the road all the way to the animals.  She looked very surprised to see the hens and ducks!  It was really cold up there this morning and this evening - we've been spoilt with the temperatures up until now.   I came to France on my own and still feel that it was a good move for me - I'm happy here in the peace and quiet and without family problems with the children being on my doorstep - just a bit removed from everything.  It must be good for me here as my blood pressure is now normal and this week my doctor said I could come off the medication.  When I was in Cornwall it was regularly 160 over 105 and often higher, so it must be the slow pace here.  I come over twice a year, perhaps we could meet up if you like.  Have a good week!  Sandra
