"Trish - pea seed sounds brilliant. Can i buy that in a run-of-the-mill garden centre? Do i just look for 'peas'? And yes, one of the walls is south facing so i could try growing against that. "

"Well done! Regardless of the size of your vegetable patch always go at your own pace, don't overdo it and above all enjoy what you do. Regarding winter beans I would assume that Kathy is talking about broad bean varieties such as Aquadulce or…"

"Hi Emma. Yes there is loads you can plant at this time of the year as the ground temperature is still quite warm. It's not to late for a few salad crops like radish and winter lettuce but it might be worth investing (or making) a cloche to…"

"Yes sow winter lettuce now - I sowed some Arctic King and Winter Gem in my coldframe. You can also do some over-wintering onion sets and throw in some Tulips for some nice cutting flowers come spring. Good luck!"

"Winter radish varieties can go in now, ready to be over wintered. Japanese onions can be sown now too. Garlic is best planted now too, but it wont be ready anytime soon. Google what to plant in September."

Are there any veg I can sow now? (a novice asks)

I've got a tiny derelict garden and I'm going to turn half of it into a veg plot. I'd like to get going asap as I may only have the garden in its current state for 6-9 months (I'm impatient to get gardening!). Is there anything I can sow at the moment? Or do I need to be very patient and wait? Thanks for any advice!EmmaSee More
