Elizabeth Musgrave replied to Karen Spray's discussion Chickens in shady area
"Our chicken house is under an old plum tree with two or three old and not very productive apples close by. Ours love being near trees, sometimes perch in them, like scratching in leaf litter. Great idea I think!"

Elizabeth Musgrave replied to VP's discussion A Taste of the Unexpected by Mark Diacono in the group Book Club
"I have my copy too and I am loving it. Straightforwardly written, brimming over with energy and enthusiasm. Not quite ready to blog about it yet as am spinning it out! Yes and yes, to trying both crops and recipes, and delighted to find that some of…"

Elizabeth Musgrave replied to Gillian Carson's discussion Who is your favourite veg TV presenter?
"Having already given my vote for Monty, Carol and Alys, I would add that I think Sarah Raven is not great on TV. Her books are really good and I would stick to those! And yes to Geoff Hamilton as the man. He was a hero."

Elizabeth Musgrave replied to Caro's discussion Cookbooks for home-grown veg: what's on your shelf? in the group Book Club
"I agree totally about Sarah Raven's Garden Cookbook. Until I grew veg on a large scale (well, large compared to before) I didn't appreciate quite how good this book was. There are all sorts of things here I return to again and again and…"

"Tricky, our Charlottes were definitely worth it and have yet to lift Roosters and Pink Fir Apple. Think we might have grown too many. I agree that there are things which might not be worth the effort but have yet to work out what they are! "

Elizabeth Musgrave replied to Gillian Carson's discussion What is the best event for food growers in the UK?
"I went to the spring one with other garden bloggers and it was great, will definitely go again. The Autumn one sounds more interesting in terms of veg stuff but I don't think I will manage to get there this year. "
