This might be one for Tony Southall, what`s the best way, leave all the shoots on, or remove the little one leaving one strong main shoot before planting.Continue

"Yes Mark,  I love the photos in fact I go to the photo page first then look at the discussions, I can get half decent pics now and then but nothing competition worthy - unless we go for a "vegetable close to death" or "why did…"

"Lynn, I have sometimes managed to get a really nice photo of an appallingly bad veg - say, for instance a cabbage full of holes, which could make a very clever photographic subject. Have you noticed how many of the photos on our group's page…"

Really cheesed off over my missing sunflowers

Posted on April 30, 2013 at 17:41 7 Comments

I raised then from seed nurtured and watered them, put them in the cloche to harden off before planting out, forgot to close the lid when I left the plot, discovered this morning all of them gone, the whole plant, not a trace just empty pots, now what animal/bird likes young sunflower plants?

Re-covered greenhouse

Re-covered with anti UV coating polythene sheet for £25 hope it does the trick, the old covering only lasted 2 yrs I am loathe to spend much more.

Early and second early potatoes

Posted on March 10, 2013 at 13:30 3 Comments

My Potatoes are in, planted by my usual method of dig a hole with a trowel about 15cm deep wrap the chitted potato in a sheet of newspaper (which my friend suggested) cover with a seaweed mix of compost and earth up another 10cm or so, I usually earth up just once more when the hulm is about 15cm high.

David my picture is of James Stewart when he was a USAAF pilot during WW2. He's my favourite actor, was a lifelong pilot and I much admire him.

Regarding your friend it's good to have an interest like that which helps to overcome such a tragic loss.

I've had a lifelong interest in aviation but have always preferred looking at aeroplanes from the ground to flying in them. I started blogging as Flightbuff about that interest and fellow bloggers soon started calling me Flighty which, along with the picture, I've used ever since.

Yes I would, although I don't go to air shows hardly at all nowadays.

Thanks for your friend request...I love to see what everyone is up to in their gardens. Hope the rain is not being too much of a nuisance to your veg garden plans.
