I've dug up a raised bed of Desiree today, trying to get them up in between rainy days. I sorted the crop into little ones that are only good for boiling as 'new' potatoes, biggies to dry the skins…Continue
Thinking of buying four ducks to add to my six hens. Does anyone have any experience with ducks - any advice on breeds? I've spoken to a couple of people who say they can live in the same house as long as the hens all roost. I would just like a bit more advice. I'm thinking probably call ducks as they seem to be the most calm. Does their name ring true - do they make a lot of noise? Any answers gratefully received!See More
"Lovely to find a group here - I saw Zoe's post on FB and came to see... tempted, but don't really want any more hens just yet. I have 7 girls at the mo, 5 brown hybrid layers (may be only 4 any day now, Aggie is walking like John Wayne and…"
"Am absolutely thrilled that Monty is coming back, and what's even better is that the show will be from his own garden. I have read all his books so feel I 'know' the garden already. He's a gardener very much in tune with how we…"
"Hello Caroline, Merry Christmas! I think Liz K is here too somewhere. I'm really enjoying learning about edibles, and have done a couple of days at Harlow Carr with Joe Maiden. I'm hoping my newly planted rhubarb doesn't mind the snow…"
"I was just about to start a discussion on the same subject so very interested to read yours! I have two patches around 4m square that I grow sweet peas and various peas/beans/courgettes/squashes in during the summer.
Last winter I covered them in…"
"I had a Woodpecker greenhouse put up this year, untreated cedar wood (doesn't need much maintenance) on a brick base, and I can't say how wonderful it is just to go in there and potter, have been waiting and saving for years to do this! We…"
"Wow - sounds tricky, well done, hope you pass! I just passed Level 2 and can't help now but think of weeds as Cardamina Hirsuta or Capsella Bursa Pastoris! Really enjoyed it but I have to admit Level 3 sounds VERY hard! And there isn't a…"
"Oh dear, shouldn't have read this one, I feel a new Amazon wishlist in the offing! I don't have Fork to Fork, despite my devotion to Monty, nor Sarah Raven's Garden cookbook.
I love Nigel Slater's Tender volume 1 (veg) and have…"
"I tried Sweet Million for the first time this year, with Sungold and Gardener's Delight. Sweet Million definitely the tastiest by far, but fruits only pea-to-hazelnut sized so very fiddly to pick enough to make a meal!"
Hello Caroline, Merry Christmas! I think Liz K is here too somewhere. I'm really enjoying learning about edibles, and have done a couple of days at Harlow Carr with Joe Maiden. I'm hoping my newly planted rhubarb doesn't mind the snow - it was probably hoping to live in a snug candle lit shed in Wakefield! Regards, Cheryl
