Comment by tony southall on September 21, 2012 at 14:58 A few birds looked at this but left it alone I presums with all those hairs it could be quite an irritant to the skin,so I left it alone
I don't know what it is, but it's very impressive - and a lovely clear photo too!
Comment by gill hirst on September 21, 2012 at 23:13 Looks like the caterpillar of the Vapourer moth
Comment by tony southall on September 22, 2012 at 7:12 Thanks for that Gill does the moth look look as impressive?
Comment by Flighty on September 22, 2012 at 7:32 Tony here's what the moth looks like - The Vapourer Orgyia antiqua - UKMoths
Comment by gill hirst on September 22, 2012 at 9:55 Probably the most boring moth around! The female has such small wings she appears wingless and the male is a dingy brown
Comment by tony southall on September 22, 2012 at 16:41 Thanks for the pictures Flighty was expecting a spectacular moth
Comment by Flighty on September 22, 2012 at 17:05 You're welcome. As Gill says sadly not, although some are really eye-catching but typically they're the ones I never see.
