My garden is a walled cottage garden in the center of town, I used to have lots of flowers, roses and some shrubs, and the only vegetables were runner beans.
I ve kept the roses, Johnsons Blue geranium and lavender, and grow lots of vegetables and salad in troughs and large wooden boxes made from pallets, as well as opening up more garden by lifting slabs.
Importing soil and compost can be difficult due to parking problems.
I grew all our vegetables except cauliflowers and peas last year, and have flowers on my broad beans I set in November, and we re eating lettuce I grew under cloches over the winter, as well as purple sprouting broccoli.
This year I m hoping to grow peppers, cucumbers and courgettes, as well as tomatoes, lettuce, all the beans, carrots beetroot etc.
I m so enjoying my gardening, and can t wait to get outside every morning to see how all my plants are doing. And love harvesting my veg and getting them straight in the saucepan or steamer, and lettuce and tomatoes from garden to salad in minutes.

Comment by Flighty on April 26, 2012 at 15:54 Kathleen welcome to UKVG. Well done it all looks great, and I'm not surprised that you can't wait get out there every day to see how it's all doing.
You show just what can be grown in a small space, which should be an inspiration to others in similar circumstances.
Happy gardening.
Thanks Flighty 39, I m so pleased I ve been able to grow so many of our vegetables, my sons enjoyed picking lettuce and tomatoes for their sandwiches, and my grandchildren loved picking cherry tomatoes for their lunch when they came at the weekend. I ve given them a cherry tomato plant each to grow at home. I ve been given another water butt today which my son has put next to the original one, with a hose to syphone the water when its full, so I m ready for the summer.
