Leeks

I dont know anything about leeks john but the ones in your photo look great. Have you had any problem with the cold weather?

Hi Geoff

We've had frost now for the last 2 weeks.  I've got tube heaters under that bench and they keep it at about 55 degrees during the night.  These leeks should be alot better but I did not have my act together. So they sulked for about 6 weeks.

John, i think most gardeners have suffered with the cold weather we have been having ,even myself has had to keep a close watch on the plants. I myself have got a tube heater and i must say they are not to bad at all. the green house i use for young plants is only 4ftx6ft and they stay in there untill i feel they can go into the 6ft x10ft and after a few of them will go into my 11ft polytunell were i will try to impove on onion size.Although i have grown my own onion seed i have ordered 25 showmaster plants from marshallswhich i think might do well at shows. I have grown them befor as sets but they dont do them any more.

I've grown Show Master when I lived in the outer Hebrides and they done well for me.  Wish they still did sets as I liked them.
