Comment by John Martin on February 7, 2012 at 0:01 Hi Geoff
We've had frost now for the last 2 weeks. I've got tube heaters under that bench and they keep it at about 55 degrees during the night. These leeks should be alot better but I did not have my act together. So they sulked for about 6 weeks.
Comment by geoffrey dunstan on February 7, 2012 at 18:27 John, i think most gardeners have suffered with the cold weather we have been having ,even myself has had to keep a close watch on the plants. I myself have got a tube heater and i must say they are not to bad at all. the green house i use for young plants is only 4ftx6ft and they stay in there untill i feel they can go into the 6ft x10ft and after a few of them will go into my 11ft polytunell were i will try to impove on onion size.Although i have grown my own onion seed i have ordered 25 showmaster plants from marshallswhich i think might do well at shows. I have grown them befor as sets but they dont do them any more.

I've grown Show Master when I lived in the outer Hebrides and they done well for me. Wish they still did sets as I liked them.
