hi wondered if anyone can advise me . I have just looked at the last couple of jars of my green tomatoe chutney and 2 ( from the same batch) have this very thin cloudy /milky look on the inside of the top of the jars and lid (kind of looks like steam but not enough to be wet ).Not sure when this happened as they where way at the back of a high shelf . they are in le parfet jars and there is no other signs of dodgeiness , colour change, bubbling ? of coarse if they dont smell or look right on opening I will ditch them but I am not actually ready to open them yet so am wondering what you thought ?
This was my 1st batch last year and really dont want to bin needlessly but also dont want to poison anyone !!!
thanks
tricia

I think the best thing to do is just to look on opening, as a rule of thumb all preserves last 12 months, provided that you have properly sterilised jars and the boilingpoint etc has been reached. Mould only usually forms once its been opened and left, perhaps your rubber seals are not tight enough. I always use screw top jars, especially if Im not gonna open them for a while, I find that the preserve keeps better.
Good luck with it, and let us know what it is? debi x

might just watch it to see if it looks like it is developing in any way : ) or will try and get a photo ?

just wondered if it was anything obvious! can only think that I havent sterilised properly but will get a better idea when I open the jar !
I also find the le parf jars too big .they seemed like a good idea
