Comment by Catherine on February 29, 2012 at 10:41: I bought one of those cheaper ones with green mesh running through the plastic last Feb, but as we have a bit of a slope in our garden it wasn't fitted properly. With the high winds last March it started splitting at the seams and was in fear of collapsing, so we moved it down on to the flat and bought a new 14ft.x 20ft. "proper" one and let the manufacturer erect it professionally. I now use the green one for all my seeds and over-wintering pots and we have a nice seating area in there too. The stronger one is used soley to grow all my veggies. It has greatly extended the growing seasons for me and we were eating lettuce,leeks,cabbage most of the winter. I have spuds,broad beans,lettuces,spring onions ,carrots and red and white onions coming up already. I would say it was the best investment I have ever made!

Comment by Jan Willetts on February 29, 2012 at 13:08: Thanks for the tip Sandra. Wasn't sure I wanted to use it again but I did grow a lot in there once I had worked out how to tether it to the ground with wooden stakes and cable ties.

Comment by Sandra E Chubb on February 29, 2012 at 15:03: It's so hot in my polytunnel this afternoon that I had to take my top off - luckily no-one else about. I've left the door wide open to get some air going through. Really, really hot here today. I planted up tomatoes, broad beans, sweet peppers and courgettes inside and loads of seeds outside plus my white onions and shallots. I have no water up on my veggie/animal field, but collect water from the barn roof into IBCs and then transfer the water from them into old baths. I have one old bath in the polytunnel so I can just dip my watering cans - quicker than waiting for a tap on the IBC to fill a can up.

Comment by Debi Williamson on March 11, 2013 at 15:39: I have a small greenhouse, which i outgrew years ago, but now we are about to move, I really want a polytunnel as wel, partly because of having more space, and partly as this will be a aprt business venture.

I have been thinking about a second hand tunnel but not sure if these are worth it? or should i just save up for a new one?

If you are going to start a business venture,I'd advise buy new though. Would love to hear more on your ideas. Oh yea, always buy one bigger than you thing you will need. I'm sorry I didn't!
