Comment by Juliet Board on February 23, 2011 at 22:23 Hi Juliet,
Well that puts you streets ahead of me! I am currently attending a bee keeping course run by my local bee-keepers association. We have now finished the theory lessons, and will be having practical hands on sessions from now through to October in their Apiaries.
I had hoped to start my first hive or two of this spring, but the cost of a nuc colony at the moment is prohibitive! I may wait and see if I can collect a swarm instead.
Its great to hear your children are involved too, so often you hear of people being frightened of them. They fascinate me!
I had thought about bees!! But the course wasnt finalized untill December for the following Feb and because we had to pay for the full amount of the course up front, I never did, with it being to near Christmas (kids and all) But this year I will have some warning, that is if its a day course!!
I would love to tried lavender honey or wildflower honey. The thought a hive or two in a wildflower meadow just intrigues me!!
Comment by Alderandash on June 18, 2012 at 18:24 Hi, I don't have any bees yet but would really love to have a hive some day soon. I've been in touch with my local beekeeping group and they seem really friendly and happy to help. I'm especially interested in 'flowers for bees', and the idea of making an area of bee meadow in my garden.
