Comment by Trish le Gal on August 20, 2010 at 8:41: Hi Elizabeth, I garden on my allotment on the North Norfolk coast and have just sown a load of salad leaves (rocket, oriental leaves like mizuna and tatsoi, and winter lettuce like Winter Density and Lattughino) which will over-winter outside in a sheltered spot and do even better under a bit of cover (green/shade netting or plastic tunnels). Most kids love the mild peppery tastes.

I can’t even get a Cached version, so I went looking for a new home and found you. I must say it looks like a very healthy community of veg growers. Comment by Trish le Gal on August 30, 2010 at 9:24: Hi again Elizabeth - when you say a reliable cabbage what time of year are you looking to harvest? I have done very well with Peter F1 for a hungry gap harvest (April/May), but found that when I tried to get seed the next year it had disappeared from the catalogues! So it's a question of just sorting through and trying something new - the pointy types are good for harvesting in spring. The early cabbage Premier (June/July) has also done well for me. You might want to check out my website for my book on the hungry gap harvest.

If you're over here in the summer at all come and see me at my allotments (east end). Middle access road (there are three), down the bottom, large shed with a lace curtain on the left. If I'm not there, ask someone.

What about the dry weather eh? Pigeons have played merry havoc with my peas!
