There's many insects, amphibians and reptiles which will help out in the garden or on the plot in exchange for a bit of shelter - and others that just plain take advantage! Post photo's of the good, the bad and the ugly.

Comment by Debbie on March 17, 2011 at 21:33 I wish I'd had a camera earlier today when I brought the washing in and a ladybird crawled out of a sheet. Another sight to make me smile.

Flighty thats a lovely shot and thanks for the poached egg reminder, will put some in this year. Apparently the lines on the flower are like arrows pointing for the bees.

This Common Lizard has a waterfront property with sunbathing deck and Downland views - he's happy! Next to the pond there's a pile of large chalk/flints which I think he goes under at night. We've got a big pile of chalk which was dug out of the seating area around our new bread oven and I think we'll use these to make more basking areas for the lizards.

Comment by Flighty on March 23, 2011 at 18:53 Terrific picture Sarah! Like Debbie I'm not keen on them.
I saw a few bumble bees and lots of ladybirds on the plot this morning but yet to see any butterflies.
Comment by SteffLovesSeeds on March 30, 2011 at 11:52 I was surprised to see a large bumble bee 3 days ago. Butterfly numbers are getting scarce...
I keep exotic flower beetles, insects are interesting to observe :)

Comment by Zoe on April 13, 2011 at 10:36 Hi,
When I was uncovering my veg patch this weekend to get it dug over I discovered a small reddish frog. I've never seen a rusty red frog before - are they common?
