Might not be the same everywhere but our local Wilko's has 500g bags at half price. Bought one and counted 146 onions for 74p. Too late to get good sized bulbs for storing but if you stick em close together in a container or any old space you have they make great salad onions.

I am a firm believer that you only get what you pay for and even more so with vegetable seeds
Since I switched to a quality product from a standard, all my veg last year was far superior than that from previous

Permalink Reply by Darren Blick on May 13, 2012 at 21:09 It may just be the fact that I was a crap grower before
I never had a real success at growing anything of decent standard until I joined the NVS and got good advice from the old boys
The first thing I was told was to start with a quality seed

Permalink Reply by elaine rickett on May 13, 2012 at 21:47 I have been buying my onion sets from Wilko's for years and have grown some great onions - so I'm quite happy with the quality.
Permalink Reply by John Martin on May 15, 2012 at 17:31 I think its horses for courses. I must admitt in general my seeds come via quality seedsmen, although I do purchase some from Lidl for things like salad leaves and Broccolli.
Permalink Reply by Colin Robinson on May 15, 2012 at 21:00 The first lot I bunged in are now sprouting so nowt wrong with cheap onion sets. Lidl tomato, courgette, melon, squash, onion and lettuce seed at 29p a packet all giving near perfect germination so why pay T & M prices?
Permalink Reply by Paul Andrews on May 16, 2012 at 8:49 That reminds me, I was going to plant onions this year, might try get some on the weekend
