UK Veg Gardeners

Which person has inspired you to grow vegetables and create your style of vegetable garden?

A writer, gardener, friend, celebrity or even a fictional character...

Mine would be:

First and above everyone else, Joy Larkcom. If you don't know her, seek out her books

they have been my inspiration for 25 years now and I still learn new things every time I re-read one.

Equal second:
My Gran - grew fruit and flowers to send to market, I spent my pre-school years helping in her greenhouse. I still love the varieties she grew the best!
My Dad - I always asked him when I needed to sow and plant things, now I have to remember by myself - but his advice is there.

I'd love to know who has inspired you to grow veg

Surprising several rate Bob Flowerdew. He has never really done it for me.

Soilman has got there first.  Since the sad demise of my Dad, Dr Hessayon has proved a most reliable resource. No other authority required!

When I used to have my 2x2 m2 garden in a big city in Holland my biggest inspiration was You Grow Girl who had just written her first book about container/small garden and balcony gardening. Now living in the Belgian Ardennes with 2000 m2 I have to say it is Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall. I have been in awe of him since the start of River Cottage and every time I need a reminder of why we are taking on this project I watch a few episodes and I breath easier and feel more at ease. He is like a zen master for me!
