What Have you been up too Feb 12

Well the weather has been bright but cold up here with temp down to -5 last night and forecast to go to -8 tonight. Been in the greenhouse making sure heater is working and thermostats are OK.

Picked the first PSB, covered raised onion bed with bubble wrap, finished of turning manure into potato bed, hoed

around PSB, pulled out the rotting caulies (snow killed them), dug down 3 feet trying to get out horse radish roots they go down deeper, so back filled the hole and shall now hoe the leaves of as they come through, kill it that way, was asked to look at stolen potato ladies PSB, she wanted to know what grubs were decimating her unnetted crop, PIGEONS i explained.......der

Well, I went to the Caldbeck potato day and was pleasantly surprised. It's the first time I've attended such an event and the number of varieties was quite something. I restricted myself to 1kg each of Novella, Picasso, Premier and Yukon Gold. One wall of the village hall was taken up with tables loaded with veg and herb seeds but I refused to even look. One look and then you're hooked and I don't need any more seeds. Mind you, I didn't need any more seed potatoes either :)

Where the shallots have gone totally mental, sat and unwound roots of half a tray and went up the lotty and put them in. They have 2 chances now.

got my red star celery pricked out and finally got decent germination with my "Globo" onions and now have 30 plants pricked out. Only looking for 20 to bring on for my under 250 gm class. Really happy with my first go at getting Celery going.

Put another 6 lady Christl spuds in grow sacks. That's 22 tubers in all either undercover or easily brought inside and I don't have room for any more. Now I suppose I'll just have to be patient until I can get some into permanent outside positions.

Hubby has set some spuds and I have many, many veggie seeds sat too! Some are coming up, some are not. But I thing we are way ahead of ourselves this year with the mild winter we had in Ireland! For God's Sake ..it's still only February...LOL! Long ago our forefathers..even my father... never set anything till Good Friday, that's a few weeks away yet! ;)
