I've got sets planted in every available space throughout my flower border.
Will they flower? Do I have to do anything? Or will they just grow as much as they can, then go yellow?
I'm quite new to this, & although seed packets tell you a lot they can't beet a bit of knowledge from someone who has already done it.
Zoe onion sets are 'heat-treated' to kill the flower embryo to prevent bolting so no they won't flower!
The leaves go yellow, then topple after which leave another two weeks then lift.
Mine are onion sets Zoe, seeds are different, though I would love to know how growing onion seeds works!!! Anyone?
Onions from seed are really easy - and no worries about running to flower / seed. And as the traditional time to sow is Christmas Day afternoon it gives you a great opportunity to get out of the house for a few minutes - though you are fine sowing up to about mid Feb.
Here's a little clip on planting plants produced from seed...
