What varieties of tomato are you growing this year - I have made my choices at a woman of the soil are there any good ones that you have tried that aren't on my list.

I'll be growing, Alicante, Gardeners Delight and Roma as usual plus I'll be trying out San Marzano and Delicious from Premier Seeds Direct.
Inevitably I'll end up with too many small plants which I'll give to neighbours and may well get some other varieties in exchange.
Permalink Reply by elaine rickett on February 3, 2012 at 15:29 There are so many varieties to choose from, more every year never heard of Delicious before I will be interested to see how you find them. I have heard that Red Alert is a good one but I haven't found any seed yet.
Permalink Reply by elaine rickett on February 3, 2012 at 17:15 Thanks I'll have a look at their site.
I grew Red Alert last year - the yield was incredible!
Permalink Reply by elaine rickett on February 3, 2012 at 20:28 I don't know how I have managed to miss this one, must rectify
Every year I grow far too many tomatoes - stupid amounts - so we'll be cutting down this year. Know I'll def be adding a yellow variety though - my friend grew them last year and they seemed to capture the taste of the sun in their flesh! :)
Permalink Reply by elaine rickett on February 3, 2012 at 23:10 Sungold is more of an orange colour but by far the best flavour.

legend
ferline
rosada
Just not as many as last year! The greenhouse got a bit packed! Probably buying Tumbling Toms plants from the local (Delfland- ace by the way)- all my seeds are new though, I fancy an experiment!
Permalink Reply by elaine rickett on February 4, 2012 at 8:59 I have heard of Ferline but not the other two will have to check them out
Permalink Reply by Stephen Shirley on February 4, 2012 at 10:48 Elaine, of course too late to help you with this years sowings - but a day out later in the year will help you for next... Tomato Tasting
This year's is on the 28th of July... Forthcoming Events
Permalink Reply by Plant Frenzy on February 4, 2012 at 11:10 I forgot we are growing Sungold again- that is the only variety from last year we are carrying on with this year. I picked up this pack from t and m for 20p! Good idea on the tomato tasting- this year's choices have been made based on disease resistance- boring I know- I just hope they taste good too :)
Permalink Reply by elaine rickett on February 4, 2012 at 14:50 I am not too worried about disease resistance - cos if they taste of nothing they're not worth growing anyway in my opinion.
