What varieties of tomato are you growing this year - I have made my choices at a woman of the soil are there any good ones that you have tried that aren't on my list.

I brought one single plant from the garden centre called 'Bell boy'. It's as tough as an old boot and crop well into November. Worth trying for its shape and it perhaps fits the colder climate up north.

Permalink Reply by Fred Hogg on March 11, 2012 at 1:45 Red Alert for me, i have read good write ups on it. Kings Seeds stock it, £1.45 for 25 seeds
Permalink Reply by Stephen Shirley on March 11, 2012 at 10:57 Never be scared to try new (to you varieties) - this year I am trialling 30 heritage varieties that I have purchased from around the World, as well as the usual 30+ varieties we grow. And then on the 28th July we and our customers will decide what's worth growing...Forthcoming Events

Permalink Reply by Biggreenfingers on March 15, 2012 at 17:41 I'm sticking with my tried and tested varieties - Gardeners Delight and Moneymaker. I did get a packet of Maskota free with a magazine and might try them out.
Permalink Reply by Colin Robinson on March 15, 2012 at 22:49 I managed to get hold of some seeds of 'Amish Paste' which is supposed to be good for sauces/ketchups. They are now in the propagator but I've no idea where I'm going to put all the tomato plants once they get going. Was only going to grow 6 or 8 plants this year but so far 16 seeds have germinated with another 6 in the prop and I haven't finished sowing yet!!
Good job my neighbours like tomatoes.
Permalink Reply by arkie59 on March 26, 2012 at 20:38 mamande is a nice tomato to grow l tried them for the fist time last year they are large enough to cut up for the buirgers you grill on the bbq and go a long way
This year I'm growing:
Red Alert (v. prolific last year)
Sungold
Tigerella
Sweetpea Currant (not grown before)
Mexican Midget (not grown before)
I've got some seedlings growing happily in the conservatory. Not sure how they will fare when we go away in May for 2 weeks - some will go to stay with my mother-in-law, but any that are too big will have to make do with the ministrations of my neighbour. I haven't got a greenhouse so they will all be grown outside except for a few I will squeeze into the conservatory, but the sweet peppers take priority over toms for the limited space in the conservatory.
