A couple of days ago I was feeling really chuffed at the progress of my shallots which are filling out nicely but today I had to remove five little seed heads from them. This on top of the fact that almost all the overwintered onions have bolted, I've lost four potato plants to blackleg, there's an aphid infestation on the blackcurrants and every one of my cucumber plants gave up the ghost.
But, on the plus side we had our first carrots of the year and they were bootiful.
Well the carrots look great ! Sign of the times Colin, so much stuff failing and mainly due to weather i'm afriad. Not too sure how we can beat it , unless seed suppliers can come up with seeds that withstand strange conditions ! But then againt they would be genetically modified and i would rather take my chances !
Oh it's dispirting isn't it? But the carrots do look good! What are you doing with your aphids? They're doing my apple trees a bit of no good too and the ladybirds have all most inconsiderately gone awol.
Your carrots look lovely! Everything has been slow on my allotment. I have also had a lot of problems with greenfly/whitefly this year, never been bothered by them before - they must like the rain :)
Mine have lots of lushy leaves but no carrots at all. wondering why?
