I went to the allotment yesterday and brought home more French beans and four courgettes. There's still more courgettes growing and flowers still waiting to open. It's only a matter of time now until we get the first frosts which will stop them in their tracks. Are you still harvesting any summer crops?

Arrrggghhh! That reminds me I picked my last courgette today (because I dug up the plants) and left it down on the plot...! My sunflowers are still flowering as are my strawberries - and I even have strawberries growing on them too. Not optimistic they're going to ripen though ;>)
Not really, we had a frost Sunday morning which finished off the courgettes. Whilst I was pulling them out I noticed a few second crop strawberries that had been hiding, some of which are ripe. Saying that in the greenhouse there's still a few tomatoes and peppers going.
Ah the frost got all my cougettes, late marrows and squash. Glad I was able to pick and store some. Still collecting cellery and beans from the summer though. My pepper and chillies in the green house are still looking very good. Don't know how long for.
There are some strawberries with red tips and I am afraid they won't be able to ripen in time. Should I remove them or leave them as they are? I don't have a green house and they are no space left in the shed.
We ate a couple of courgettes off our 4 plants today, so far we've had over 8 kilos of courgettes off them. And somehow still none in the freezer.
The purple beans are still producing, despite looking ragged and leafless now. So I think the ones on them now are the last we'll have. But as they have given us about 11kilos from a row less than 10 foot long we can't complain.
The butternut squash plant suddenly has come back into life, the old stem has died back to nothing, but its produced another stem with lovely leaves as if its the middle of summer again. Its going to be awfully upset when as the days get shorter and shorter and colder and colder.
Just leaving it now to see what it does.
I pulled up the last courgettes and butternut squash plants today for the compost heap as previous experience tells me they just turn to slime after the frosts and are difficult to handle. I now have no room in my compost bins but did find another butternut squash hiding in the strawberry patch where they'd ended up from the bed next door. Actually its quite a good idea because they grew after the strawberries had finished - a new version of hot desking for plants! Still a few raspberries hanging on and loads of apples and pears. Had some celeriac last week-really good but a bit on the small side. The celery has been a bit disappointing-lots of slugs and a bit chewy, now I know why celery hearts became popular-its the only bit the slugs can't reach.
