Anyone out there know how to remove really really really tough stubborn never-gonna-move labels from chutney jars? I've tried soaking in very hot soapy water but they refuse to fade let alone budge, which is a shame because I've saved the jars because of their shape and really would like to use them. I could stick a label on top, I suppose, but it wouldn't be the same.

Just give the label a good rubbing which breaks the surface and then soak and you'll find the label disintegrates. You may have the residue of the glue but you can just put a new label over it.
